Program Objectives

Project Core Design

• to encourage reading for all of America's secondary school students;
• to provide reading strategies for reluctant and struggling readers to interpret the text, and;
• to foster a sense of responsibility and commitment to reading by emphasizing the joy and success students can obtain from reading proficiently.

Project Expanded Design

• to promote and encourage reading at all age levels;
• to advance a program of community interaction involving literature, and;
• to generate a "common experience" among generations and across geographic, social, and economic barriers.
